Burning Heart

From the Road to Emmaus account in Luke 24:13-35 following the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.

I have always found this to be one of the most beautiful passages in the Bible. Our resurrected Lord walking down the road with two people who at first didn’t realize who He was, but the more they walked and talked and then dined together, they knew it was Jesus. Oh that moment of knowing, when their hearts burned within them, what a moment of reckoning to never be forgotten.

Luke 24:32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

When I recently read these words in the Gospel of Luke, I contemplated their meaning and thought to myself—this is exactly how it is when God speaks to us, our heart burns within us—it is His voice!

His voice speaks through His Spirit stirring inside us where His Spirit resides. This should be an expected occurrence for the Christian who is actively pursuing a close relationship with the Lord.

When we walk with the Lord, when we read His Word, our hearts will burn within us because He is with us.

It is an awesome thing for the Spirit of the living God to dwell inside the heart of each believer, and it shouldn’t surprise us, when the Spirit of the Lord Himself, burns within our heart.

The burning heart within you is God reminding you…

I am here

I am with you

I am for you,

I will never leave you or forsake you

Nothing can separate us

You are my child

I love you more than you’ll ever know.
