Let the Winds Blow

Every day of the first week of September 2012 was over 100 degrees. On a Friday afternoon at 3pm the temperature was 104, breaking the previous heat record for this day in North Texas.

Later that evening my husband attended a high school football game in Denton, which is farther north than where we live in the Dallas area. He texted me at 9pm. “North wind is beginning to blow.” At 9:10, “Serious wind blowing now.” Let the winds blow.

I stepped outside to see if we were experiencing any change yet. I thought I might have heard a little wind. Maybe, just maybe, the predicted cool front was at my back door. Instead, I was greeted with the same stifling hot air as each previous check. It was 92 at 9pm. Let the winds blow.

But an hour later, I knew it was at my back door because I could hear powerful, gusting winds. The reprieve from a long hot summer had arrived, and you could hear a city breathe relief. The north winds were blowing and we gladly said goodbye to the record breaking heat of an entire week. Let the winds blow.

I couldn’t see that wind, but I could certainly feel its effect. The mysterious line between visible and invisible revealed the evidence of the unseen wind. My hair whipping around my face definitely felt the effect as I stood in the back yard welcoming the north wind and the cooler weather it was ushering in. It was dark, but in the shadows of the night, I could see tree branches and leaves blowing in the wind and other plants and flowers bent over by the force of a strong wind. Let the winds blow.

There is a greater invisible mystery and that is our invisible God. I can’t see God, but I feel His effects. His life and His Spirit have been breathed in me. He has changed me. His work in my life is like the wind that I can’t see, but I know it’s there, doing an invisible work.

Yes! I believe in a God I can’t see. I believe in the salvation that is mine because I accepted His free gift of salvation and eternal life by grace through faith in His Son Jesus Christ. I believe in the invisible regenerating work He did that made me a new creation. There are a lot of unseen factors in this Christian walk as the evidence of an unseen God is lived out in my life every day. The effects of God in my life are just as real as the autumn winds beginning to blow across the plains of Texas. The Christian walk is a life of faith. Let the winds blow!

John 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.

First Breath of Morning: Where God Waits For You Every Day - A 90 Day Devotional.

First Breath of Morning is a great choice as a ministry resource. This book would be great to have on hand to give as a beautiful welcome gift to the new lady in your church and to take with you on a hospital visit or to a nursing home, for the home bound, a women’s shelter, or a local prison ministry, or other ministry outreach.
