A Breath of Fresh Air

It has been a long hot summer in Dallas and also a busy one as I’ve worked hard to finish all the pre-publication work and line everything up to market and promote my book coming out in October. It would be quite easy to keep working and never take a break because my to-do list is long.

Something has to give. There is this whisper in my heart telling me what I need. A deep cleansing breath of fresh air!

Why does a deliberate and deep cleansing breath of fresh air feel so good?

So relaxing and invigorating at the same time
So peaceful and energizing all at once

I know exactly how good it feels because after a long morning of working without a break, I decided what I needed was to step outside and breathe some fresh air.

I took some water out to the birdbath. Snipped a few spent blooms off the petunias, zinnias and marigolds and other flowers around my yard. I listened to the chirping of sparrows high up in the top of the big oak tree waiting for me to leave so they could drink the fresh cool water in their birdbath before the hot summer sun warmed up their water supply.

Just a moment to gaze at blue skies overhead
Just a moment to watch a white billowing cloud

Just a few minutes to enjoy the simple pleasures around me and those few minutes made all the difference. My attitude was much improved when I returned to the keyboard on my laptop. I worked with much more zeal than before I treated myself to a few refreshing moments outside.

Yes, my heart knew exactly what it needed. Oh the satisfying breathing in of beauty all around me. Fresh air is a balm for my soul. That is why it feels so good! This deep, cleansing breath of fresh air was God’s goodness to me today and I am thankful.

Psalm 107:8-9 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Do you need a breath of fresh air today?
