Do You See the Potential God Has Placed in You?

I can still remember that the first Mother Daughter Banquet I attended as a very young mother was quite an enjoyable evening. My dream of being married and having a family had beautifully come true thanks to the immeasurable blessings of God in my life. What I still recall most vividly are the two songs a group of young girls sang for us while we ate our food.

The girls appeared to range in age from about 6-9 years old and they sang two songs whose words have impacted my life from those years as a young mother until even today. I remember the words filled me with hope and excitement as I considered that in God’s eyes, I am a great big bundle of potentiality and that He is working on me. Do you remember these songs?

I Am a Promise (Bill and Gloria Gaither)

I am a promise
I am a possibility
I am a promise
With a capital P
I am a great big bundle of potentiality.

He’s Still Working on Me (The Hemphills)

He's still working on me
To make me what I need to be
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be
'Cause He's still workin' on me.

That banquet was a long time ago. I was young. Life was an open door full of promise and excitement knowing God would be working on me, in me and through me to accomplish His purpose in my life.

I am older now and I can tell you, He is still working on me. I am still a great big bundle of Potentiality!

It isn’t just a message for the young starting out it in life. It is a message for all stages and seasons of life.

In conversations with others I have noticed that there are often times we find ourselves at a crossroads of not knowing for sure what to do and we are trying to find the best opportunities for us.

I am going through that myself to some degree. I want to be more involved in new areas of ministry but I don’t know yet how that is going to look. I want to do new things with my writing, but am uncertain how to proceed. I have opened up my heart for God to lead me to new things.

What about you? Do you see the potential God has placed in you? Do you believe He is still working on you in this season of your life? I pray that our hearts will be open to all He has for us.

Philippians 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
