Stay Close

If you were sitting across the table from me today,

If I could say one thing to you,

If I could encourage you in one direction-

It would be to always seek a consistent close walk with the Lord.

Daily walk with Him.

Daily talk with Him.

This is not a casual relationship,

It is not a long distance relationship,

He will never move from His constant place beside us-

If anyone moves, it is us—and to our detriment.

Stay close and He will be your resting place.

He will be your strength,

And He will give you joy.

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Color My World

No, this isn’t the Dallas Arboretum as the photos in my previous post. It is one corner of my front porch. Just a quick photo taken while sitting on the porch enjoying a light breeze on a Sunday afternoon while my husband watched a football game.

When I looked at the flowers captured in a photo by my simple phone camera, I felt the same satisfaction I felt walking through the Dallas Arboretum last week.

There is beauty in this world. It is all around us and it touches every corner of our lives. God has colored this world with more beauty than the eye can behold.

Right now, the beauty that colors our world seems even more significant to me because we also live in a deeply troubled world that we can’t ignore. How do I reconcile the joy I have in the beauty around me when at the same time there is so much ugliness?

The beauty in all creation points to our magnificent Creator. Anything and everything that points us to our Creator is also a reminder that God is Sovereign over all the issues that are far beyond our control. He is the one who can use difficult times to accomplish a good work in spite of all that seems to be working against us.

When I gaze upon the beauty of this world and weigh it against the increasing wickedness we are witness to every day, I am reminded with a grateful heart that our Creator is a Holy Almighty God.

Psalm 29:2
Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Refreshed by Beauty

Jesus was pressed upon by crowds of people who came to Him for healing. And then He would leave the crowds and depart for quieter places.

Is life pressing you? Do you just keep going or do you choose to slip away and find refreshment away from the hustle and bustle and over reaching demands?

Have you said yes too many times, when maybe you should have said no but found it hard to utter that two letter word? We’ve all been there. Until we realize it isn’t working and our plates are too full…again.

It is so easy to spread ourselves thin and then not have much to give to anything. In a moment of reckoning we can decide it is time to make the needed changes and slow down. We can also give ourselves permission to do those things that will refresh us when we have been stretched too far.

We can slow down and breathe in the beauty around us. Take a refreshing walk with me as we stroll through the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.

Let’s start with the roses by this stone wall. It is late in the season and the roses are growing thin, but definitely still beautiful and serene.

Around the corner we will encounter the stone steps lined with brilliant chrysanthemums.

Below are the same two benches pictured in one of last week’s posts which was taken on a November excursion a few years ago.

Now take a deep cleansing breath as we enter this tranquil walkway.

It is hard to choose a favorite place but I think this is mine. It is called the Poetry Garden.

Let’s rest here for a little while and savor all the beauty that surrounds.

We all need a quiet bench now and then…

When life is pressing it just might be exactly what you need.

Isaiah 30:15
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.
