Whatever trial, difficult situation, area of struggle is pressing us will bring forth and reveal what heart issues God is working on in our lives.
We should ask ourselves, what is the work God is doing through this situation? What might He be sifting? Ultimately, His desire is for us to submit and yield in total surrender and dependence on Him, and to work through these matters bringing them to Him to make changes for good.
The trials we go through are about our future and the plans God has for us. The testing of our faith prepares us for what’s next. God is also testing our obedience to Him and our love for Him. The trial is not just about the situations we are experiencing, but what God is working through it to prepare us for the future.
He is also testing our response, how we will respond to the difficulties in life. Will we challenge God with determination to do things our own way? Or will we yield to His ways, which are so different from our ways and our expectations.
Scripture tells us in James 4:6 God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. He wants us to bend the knees of our hearts and trust Him in all things, including the hardest and most confusing things that occur in our lives. Trusting Him with the difficult circumstances is not about knowing what the outcome will be, but knowing the peace that comes from drawing near to Him. This is where we find our joy—in drawing near to Him through it all.
James 4:8a Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
