Quieting My Heart

God has put a large place in my heart that is drawn to the calmer things in life. I resisted it at first when it became apparent to me that He was doing a work of quieting my heart to live at a slower pace than most people in this world want to experience.

The attitude of always wanting to be busy and always needing to be actively doing something and usually having a super long to do list that is sometimes self-imposed is not the way I approach life anymore.

I have learned that saying no brings freedom. We cannot say yes to everything and still have time for the important things/people in our lives. I have learned to pick and choose, and give myself permission to slow down when I still hear a voice in my head, or the voice of others pulling at me to get caught up again in too much busyness.

We all need to give ourselves permission to not say yes to everything because there are a lot of good things we can say yes to, but we can’t do it all. And we certainly can’t do it all well or with excellence.

More importantly, I want to stay teachable and attentive to how God is leading in my life. I know I am still a work in progress, but I know that I want to go the way He wants me to go, and not just carelessly dive into those things He would not have me take on. He is teaching me step by step to walk the path He has prepared for me.

Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with my eye.

Isaiah 30:15
“…In quietness and confidence shall be your strength...”
